written by a former student on this tragedy

There aren't words for this. I don't think there ever will be. I am heartbroken that the majority of the victims today still believed in Santa.

Their Christmas gifts are wrapped and sitting under trees- in homes that have been shattered today. Please, join with me in working and praying for peace.

In the coming days, spend some time just being grateful. Your week could have been much worse. Ret
ribution provides a false sense of relief. Hating the guy who did this, making him a "monster," relieves us from stopping to examine the anger and hate that lives in our own hearts.

Use this as a chance to reconnect with your family. Hang up your cell phones, stop texting, and just go look at some trees, play in the park, or catch up over dinner. Teach your kids how to positively resolve conflicts, and if you're struggling with that- seek help! Don't pass violence on to your children, and if you've already done so-- THIS is the day to stop and become a living example of positive change.

True- none of us will ever be responsible for a massacre, but violence and hatred don't need massacres to express themselves. Honor those kids today. Honor those parents. Let's take time to focus on what's important in OUR lives, and make them better for our families and ourselves.
